NOTE: If you are registering for the first time by mail, read the directions very carefully! If you are registering by mail, have never voted in Florida, and have never been issued a social security number, FL driver's license, or FL ID number, include one of the following with your application, or at a later time before you vote: 1) A copy of an ID that shows your name and photo or 2) A copy of an ID that shows your name and current residence address.
You are exempt from this requirement if you fall under one of these categories:
You are 65 or older
You have a temporary or permanent disability
You are or are a dependent of a military member on active duty
You are or are a dependent of a merchant marine member
You are a civilian residing overseas and are eligible to vote in Florida
You have previously voted in Florida.
In order to register to vote in Florida, you must:
Be a citizen of the United States of America (a lawful permanent resident is not a U.S. citizen);
Be a Florida resident;
Be 18 years old (you may pre-register to vote if you are 16 years old, but you cannot vote until you are 18 years old).
Not have been adjudicated mentally incapacitated with respect to voting in Florida or any other state without having the right to vote restored;
Not have been convicted of a felony without your civil rights having been restored; and
Provide your current and valid Florida driver’s license number or Florida identification card number. If you do not have a Florida driver’s license number or a Florida identification card number then you must provide the last four digits of your Social Security Number. If you do not have any of these items, you must write “none” in the box or field.
