I.                Preamble

We, the members of the Democratic Women’s Club of Okaloosa County, share in the vision of the Democratic Women’s Club of Florida.  United, we work to bring that vision into reality.

II.              Secure in Our Future

·       We honor those who came before us.

·       We support a government that will protect our future with a respect for diversity, a stable economy, living wages, available affordable housing, and a clean environment.

III.            Quality Health Care – We support:

·       The freedom and right to privacy to make personal decisions concerning health care.

·       Affordable, available health care.

·       Research that will lead to a better quality of life.

·       Programs that respect and care for the elderly and infirm.

·       Programs that treat mental illness and drug dependency as medical issues.

IV.            Public Education and Pursuit of Learning

We acknowledge education as the great social equalizer.  We support:

·       Public education at all levels, including early childhood, special needs and vocational programs.

·       Lifelong pursuit of learning.

·       Free, accessible, adequately funded libraries with a right to privacy for library patrons.

V.              Protecting the Environment – We support:

·       Enforcement of strong environmental protection.

·       Acquisition and maintenance of public lands.

·       Programs designed to educate and monitor the public in regard to home and industrial recycling.

·       The creation/development of alternative fuel sources.

VI.            Crime and Punishment – We support:

·       The rights of law abiding citizens to protect themselves.

·       Programs that protect women and children.

·       Alternatives to confinement, such as restitution and community control for those who commit property crimes or theft.

·       Humane treatment for the incarcerated.

·       Applications of the same standards regardless of race, gender, or social economic standards.

·       The ability of the accused to access DNA testing.

·       Full restoration of civil rights to former felons upon completion of their sentences.

·       Adequate funding and support of law enforcement agencies.

VII.         Equality for All – We support:

·       The drawing of legislative districts by a nonpartisan commission.

·       The rights of the individual to be free of unnecessary intrusion by Government.

·       Simple and easily accessible voter registration

·       A voter-verifiable paper trail.


Equal Rights Amendment

Section 1.  Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.

Section 2.  The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article. 

Section 3.  This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification. 

“Recognizing the equalities we still suffer, the Democratic Women's Club of Okaloosa County supports the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment by the State of Florida and the inclusion of the Equal Rights Amendment in the U.S. Constitution.”
